Going to the dentist is a day most might dread…the cleaning, the polishing, getting a filling, and trying to talk when you have a mouth full of dental tools! Dr. Christina Kulesa has set out to provide the highest quality service and care in a state of the art facility, making a trip to the dentist feel more like a visit to the spa. “Dr. K” as she is known to her patients and staff, is more than just a dentist in the Westerville community, she is the epitome of a female role model. She is the President of Northstar Family Dental and advocates on behalf and tirelessly supports other female business women in the community and within her own practice. Christina nurtures, mentors, inspires and supports her predominantly female staff and provides a healthy and collaborative work environment which encourages empowering female dentists in an industry that is still somewhat male dominant.
Christina is proud to be a successful business owner and role model for her daughters. “It brings me great joy to help patients improve their oral health. My growing business also has allowed me to provide career opportunities and mentorship to many women, which is especially gratifying.” Owning her own business and having a supporting husband and two daughters at home, Christina is continuously learning to balance all of the aspects of her life. “I have found that I am most successful when I pour myself into the task at hand, and not let distractions get in my way. So, if I am at work, I am all work. And if I am at home, I am only Mom. I try not to let the worlds affect each other.”
Despite her success, Christina never forgets to give back to her community. She and her dental team have volunteered at Westerville Area Resource Ministry (W.A.R.M) and they also have a charity of the month program at Northstar, where they donate a portion of their sales each month to local charities or non-profits that are suggested by their patients and staff. Christina also encourages her staff to volunteer their time and allows them to take paid time to volunteer in local schools and food pantries. Every year, the practice collects toys for the Firefighters for Kids annual toy drive and this past year donated $2,500 to W.A.R.M to provide holiday meals for local families in need.
Christina is inspired by her parents. “My father’s family left Italy when he was only 18 months old. They lived a difficult life as immigrants, but they always worked hard for their family. My parents, through the help of family, established a successful business, which allowed my childhood to be much easier than theirs. I remember them always working hard to provide for the family, and it taught me a valuable work ethic that I now pass on to my children.”
